Yesterday was Nordskogen's Twelfth Night. My ruminations lie behind the cut.

On Friday I slept in a bit, took care of a few personal errands, and then picked Beth up for the event chores. We borrowed my dad's truck and picked up the rental tables. We spent about two hours at my parents' place while I handled last-minute emails, and then we headed over to the site. We checked in at 4:30, and we had stuff to unload by 4:45. By 6pm, we were pretty much done with what I'd hoped to get done, but we had to stay until 7 to watch the unlocked room. That and a canceled service gave us the chance to set up almost all of the raffle, plus half the merchant tables. Afterward, there was pizza and sewing Saraidh's garb.

On Saturday, I underestimated how much time I needed to get ready, so I was five minutes late. In that five minutes, it seems that half of the merchants and staff had already arrived to unload. Good thing that the church was okay with starting before 8am! While it was chaotic, it was organized within each subsection of the event. Everyone got what they needed, more or less when they needed it. I just kept circling around to help out where needed.

Morning court ended early, despite having somewhat more royal business than I expected. Lunch tasted great. I even had the chance to enjoy it! Lily spent her first event in the kitchen, as is appropriate. [ profile] kitlizzy's cherry and rose-petal pie was really good. I didn't see much of the fighting, but A&S had a few gorgeous pieces. I missed all of the music--Bard of Nordskogen contest, Warwick Consort, AND dancing--but I expected that. I did get to visit [ profile] gflower at her vigil, briefly. [ profile] katrionans saved my evening by providing delicious food, so I never had an issue with being hungry. Diverted from the bathroom, yes, but not hungry. :')

Evening court was long, but exceedingly shiny. I processed in with a fun bunch of people, including Lily, who looked kind of drugged-out on a last-minute snack. Heh. [ profile] saraidh and Ilya were elevated to the thrones of the Barony of Nordskogen. [ profile] kitlizzy received a much-deserved Balefire, and the orders of Tyr and Bridget's Flame welcomed new members. Hurrah! The event emptied pretty quickly after court, and we had no trouble being cleaned up and ready to go by 10.

The church loved us and would be happy to host again. Yay! The organist, who I knew when I attended the church, wandered through with some music and said hi. I'm pretty sure she just made up an excuse to see what we were doing. One of the volunteer custodians remembered me too. Not bad after a ten-year absence! I hope they're still cool when it's not a former member in charge.

We dropped the tables at my parents' house for the night, and I had a quick chat with the Alholms after changing. Then we made a stop at the rockin' postrevel at Anne and Geoff's. I had scotch. By that point [ profile] gxdm was falling asleep, and he was driving, so we headed home. However, despite being exhausted, I kept vibrating until at least 1:30am.

Overall, it was a grand event and relatively easy on the autocrats. The upheaval with the feast-turned-lunch gave us a lot more time for actual activities. I don't think there were too many problems with last-minute staff turnover, at least not from the attendees' perspectives. And, as always, things were a success because the event staff rocked. [ profile] saraidh let me stick around even though school ate the half of my brain that isn't shared with her. [ profile] lupine_project did a kickass job of site setup and tear down, and I appreciate his trust in us not to make the job impossible. (And wow, did we have dedicated volunteers for cleanup!) Malcolm was very shadowlike in always appearing when we needed him. [ profile] valkyr8 fed the starving hordes, and damn, was that Kransekake delicious! Katriona fed the autocrats on top of wrangling merchants in tight spaces. And... and... lots of people did lots of stuff to make things go well. Lots of them. Things are getting blurry now.

As usual, I spent the day after the event being irritable and unfocused. Good thing I planned for that. Mom sent me home with cocoa and marshmallows and toys and a bowl of magenta "moon sand," plus a fidget project that I can't start without a punchneedle. I put away Christmas decorations, which is exactly the kind of mindless fidgetry I needed. I didn't expect today to be equally unfocused, but it was. And then the slippery roads slowed down my remaining event errands, which means I have yet to do a damn thing on my thesis.

But hey, I wrote an event report, right?

*hug* Thank you!

You and Peregrine are among the people I really wished could have been there. But as I understand it, it was only decided a little over a week in advance.

Sounds like 12th Night was a great event. Hopefully when L. gets a little older we'll be able to start going to events.

BTW, I forgot to call you tonight - if you like, you can give me a call tomorrow whenever you've got a minute.

Wow, sounds like a pretty rockin' event all around! :D Irritable and unfocused happens to the best of us, my dear. Don't sweat it. :)

The merchants weren't there before 8, and lupine project asked before we went in. It was all good. It was wonderful, and now it is over. You can breathe, and think about other things.

And I took down the second tree Sunday, too. I guess it was the day for it.
